Question (Q): Did it feel as if it wasn't your lucky day today? A: No, I felt very lucky after I won my first round. Before I played I wasn't 100% fit going into this week, because I had a little bit of an injury which I had to nurse in Rome. After all I am very happy with the way things worked out. Q: What happened when you fell on the court? A: Oh, that was just an accident. My foot didn't slide after I had to stretch for the ball, it looked a little bit hard, but I didn't hurt myself. Q: Can you explain this injury and how it developed during the week? A: It was no accident, I think it was just a little overuse in practising. I was nursing it and didn't practise as much in Rome. Going into this week, I wasn't really sure if it was working out. But having taken a couple of days off before the first round I felt a lot better before I started to play. I didn't get worse, it didn't get better, so I just treated it every day. It feels pretty good, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm actually pretty happy that I have a week off next week where I can just work on what I have to do and get ready for the French Open. Q: You beat some great players this week. Are you starting to learn even better how to play on clay? A: Well, sure, every match I play or anybody plays is an experience, and having won these tough matches here in Hamburg where the weather conditions are not always ideal for my game. For example, when I played against Moya it was very cold and wet, so winning that match gave me a lot of confidence that I can win against these type of players under these circumstances. I just have to learn more how to utilise my game against these guys, because that is how I'm beating them. Today it didn't work out, Roger played well enough where he didn't leave me much room to put pressure on the returning games. But other than that I'm pretty satisfied. Q: Who do you think will win tomorrow? A: Well,. I think it will be very interesting, because I actually noticed today that I'm the oldest guy player in the semi-finals (laughs). A lot of young players are out here with great talent. And tomorrow, whoever will win today - I think Marat is up a set against Tommy - it will be a great game tomorrow. I think Roger is on top of his game right now, he handled my serve today really well, and I think my first serve rate was 60% which is not bad. I'm sure he has less pressure tomorrow, because Marat or Tommy are not going to come in to make passing shots. Hopefully for the tournament it's going to be a great match. |
