17.05.2002 Question (Q): You play Federer now. How do you judge that? A: I'm very excited about the opportunity I'm given, because it is certainly a great chance for me to make it into the finals this week. Roger is a tough player, he's certainly proven that by beating Guga. But I feel I have a good chance, because I know Roger's game very well. I just know him personally probably as much as he knows me, so it's going to be exciting tennis tomorrow. I hope I can produce my best tennis at the right time. Q: Is it true that you played doubles together? A: Yes, we played from the beginning of the season up to last week together, so we had great success together and we know each others game very well. Q: He said that you gave him some tips about how he could beat Guga, because you had played him before and he hadn't. If you had to give him tips for tomorrow, what would you say? A: Tips about myself? Well, I just asked him if he wanted to warm up before and he gave me the cold shoulder. (laughs) Like I said, we've played together and he's probably one of my best friends on the Tour. Anytime I play against somebody he knows or he plays against somebody I know we always speak and try to give each other as much useful information as we can. He asked me today about Guga and I played him three times or more in the last 16 to 18 months and I had a good idea how he could beat him. Q: What I meant is, are there things you think you can improve? A: There are many different things I have to improve. This week has been fortunate for me, because it shows me that I can play on clay and it's not only the baseliners that can succeed on this type of surface. I still have to work on my first serve percentage, my second serve persistence and just my movement. There are many things I can improve upon. I'm happy with the way it is working for me this week. It's just a matter of being focussed and winning the right points at the right time, because you are not given too many opportunities. |
